There is no fixed fare for the ferry to Sardinia. GNV's conditions of carriage state explicitly that fares are not fixed and can rise or fall. What you end up paying is made up of several items, and you can influence most of them individually. As of August 2026.
What makes up the price

The starting prices operators advertise almost always refer to the most basic option. Tirrenia quotes it for one passenger with deck space on a one-way trip; GNV for one adult in a reclining seat or on deck, in each case without a vehicle. Both operators note that the actual price varies with the day, time and how full the ship is.
The fixed charges aren't negotiable. Since 1 January 2024, Grimaldi Lines has applied a separate line item for the cost of the EU emissions trading scheme, charged per passenger and per vehicle, at an amount that varies by route. It's neither discountable nor refundable. On the public-service routes, that is Civitavecchia - Arbatax, Civitavecchia - Cagliari, and Naples and Palermo to Cagliari, it currently doesn't apply.
Vehicles are classed by length and height
The vehicle price depends on its dimensions, not its make. GNV tiers cars into four classes: A0 up to 4.60 m and A1 up to 5.00 m in length, both under 1.90 m in height; above that, A2 (up to 2.79 m in height) is separated from A3 (up to 4.20 m in height). Ichnusa Lines, on the short Santa Teresa Gallura - Bonifacio crossing, uses a simpler split of cars up to 4 m, up to 5 m and over 5 m, plus motorcycle, motorhome and bicycle.

Discounts and special fares
Grimaldi Lines carries children under three free of charge, with no claim to their own seat and a maximum of two per cabin. Children aged three to under twelve get 50% off the ship passage, excluding fixed charges, the emissions surcharge and anything booked as an extra on board. The discount applies year-round, is deducted automatically at purchase, and applies under both the standard and saver fares. Corsica Ferries also gives a 50% discount for children aged four to twelve.
On top of that there's a range of offers worth knowing about to actually use: Grimaldi Lines runs Sardinia offers for seniors, young travellers and last-minute bookings, plus a resident fare for people living on or native to the island. Moby Lines and Tirrenia also have a resident fare, along with offers for campervans, caravans and trailers, and group rates.
Saver fare or flexible fare
Sardinia routes are sold in at least two fare tiers. Grimaldi Lines distinguishes between standard and saver fares: the saver fare is non-refundable, and you can't switch tiers after purchase. Corsica Ferries sets a flex fare against its standard fare, which can be changed and refunded. If you know your travel date for certain, the saver fare works out cheaper. If you're travelling in summer with a vehicle and haven't fixed your return date, paying for the flexibility is often worth it.
Cancelling and rebooking
How much you get back depends on the fare tier and how close you already are to departure.

Two details worth noting. With Grimaldi Lines, a standard ticket can no longer be cancelled once the date, time or route has already been changed twice. With Moby Lines and Tirrenia, you can change or cancel tickets bought online yourself in the customer area up to 60 minutes before departure, paying any fare difference directly by card.
