Getting there & terminal
Corsica Ferries departs from Ajaccio at the Gare Maritime on Quai l'Herminier, in the Port de Commerce right next to the railway station. Coming from Bastia via the T21, head towards the town centre as far as the Hotel Mercure, then turn left at the lights over the railway tracks to the Port de Commerce; the port entrance is at the roundabout by the station, on the left. Coming from the Sanguinaires via the D111, follow the coast and the quays to the entrance.
You can park at the Margonajo car park on the station roundabout (270 spaces) or the smaller Sampiero car park on Boulevard Sampiero (50 spaces). Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte Airport is a few kilometres outside town.
Check-in & departure
- With a vehicle: at least one hour before departure; in high season Corsica Ferries recommends 90 minutes.
- On foot: at least 30 minutes before departure.
Once the deadline passes, your booked place is no longer guaranteed; the ship can leave up to 30 minutes ahead of the stated time. Online check-in opens seven days before departure. The crossing goes from France to Italy, carry an ID card or passport for every traveller, checks are possible.
On board
You spend the day crossing in the lounges, on deck or in the restaurant, self-service or bar; on the Mega Express ships you can also book a reclining seat or a day cabin for exclusive use. Payment is in euros, bank cheques are not accepted on board.
Vehicle, bike & pet
Cars, motorhomes and motorbikes travel too. You give the dimensions when booking; over 5.00 m long, 1.90 m high or 2.00 m wide, a surcharge applies, and undeclared oversize vehicles can be refused boarding. LPG must be declared when booking. Dogs travel with a booked place, on a lead and wearing a muzzle, and are allowed in all public areas except the restaurant; breeds classified as dangerous are not carried. An EU pet passport with a valid rabies vaccination is required. More under Taking a dog on the ferry.
Arrival & onward travel
In Porto Torres, Corsica Ferries docks at the Stazione Marittima. The SS131 takes you to Sassari and on to Cagliari, the SP42 to Alghero, the SP90 along the north coast to Santa Teresa di Gallura. Right off the port lies the national park island of Asinara, reachable by ferry from Porto Torres.
