About Maddalena Lines
Maddalena Lines is the brand under which the Sicilian operator group Caronte & Tourist connects the island of La Maddalena with the port of Palau. The Messina-based group mainly runs the ferries across the Strait of Messina, the lines to Sicily's smaller islands (Siremar) and the Messina - Salerno route; the Maddalena archipelago is its only territory in Sardinia. According to the operator, the Palau - La Maddalena line is one of the busiest in Sardinia.
Fleet
The main ship is the Pace, a double-ended ferry for around 292 passengers with a large vehicle deck. Because it sails in both directions, there's no need to turn around in port - which is how the operator manages the frequent schedule of around 20 minutes per crossing. There are no cabins or a restaurant on board.
Routes to Sardinia
Maddalena Lines operates exclusively La Maddalena - Palau, from 1 April to 31 October. In Palau the ferry departs from Molo Commerciale, with the ticket office at Piazza del Molo 7; on La Maddalena the berth is likewise at Molo Commerciale, with the ticket office on Via Amendola. Delcomar runs the same route year-round, including in winter; the timetable shows which operator is currently sailing.
Check-in, vehicles and pets
Tickets are available online and at the ticket offices by the quay; given the frequent schedule, it's enough to queue up with your vehicle in good time at the berth. Cars, motorhomes and motorbikes all travel. Pets need their own ticket on this route; dogs must wear a muzzle and lead for the entire crossing, while small animals travel in a carrier; indoor areas other than dining areas are permitted. Animals can't stay in the car on the vehicle deck - if you can't bring yours upstairs, speak to the crew.
