Getting there & terminal
The ferry port of Bonifacio lies below the old town in the fjord-like harbour. Moby Lines departs from the Quai Sotta Portigliola, Ichnusa Lines gives Quai Noël Beretti, 20169 Bonifacio as its satnav address; both berths sit in the same harbour basin, follow the signage for your operator on site. You reach Bonifacio via the T40 from Ajaccio or the D60 from Porto-Vecchio. The nearest airport is Figari Sud-Corse, 21 kilometres away; Ajaccio is 130 kilometres. Car parks at the port are paid and fill up early in high season.
Check-in & departure
Deadlines differ by operator, plan around the stricter one if both are an option.
- Moby Lines: with a vehicle at least 90 minutes before departure; on foot 60 minutes from 1 June to 30 September, 30 minutes from 1 October to 31 May. Check-in runs electronically right at the boarding point in front of the ship.
- Ichnusa Lines: with a vehicle at least 60 minutes, on foot 30 minutes before departure, check-in at the berth. From 15 minutes before departure, the operator releases unclaimed seats to the waiting list, even for a paid ticket.
The crossing goes over a national border: an ID card or passport is required for every traveller, otherwise no boarding.
On board
Moby Lines' Bunifazziu is 71 metres long, cruises at 15 knots and carries up to 692 passengers in summer; on board there are seats in the passenger lounge, a sun deck and a bar. Ichnusa Lines' Ichnusa (64 metres, 325 passengers) was fitted with two stabiliser fins for the Strait of Bonifacio, the strait is known for currents and swell. Neither ship has cabins, the crossing is short.
Vehicle, bike & pet
Both ferries carry cars, motorhomes and motorbikes: the Bunifazziu takes 60 cars, the Ichnusa 50 on 200 metres of garage. With Moby, vehicles over 2.20 m high must be booked with the exact overall height, bike racks and tow bars count towards the length. With Moby Lines, dogs travel with their own ticket, on a lead and wearing a muzzle. With Ichnusa Lines, pets are only allowed on the outer decks, the ship has no kennels, dogs wear a muzzle and lead, cats and small pets travel in their own carrier. Arrival & onward travel
In Santa Teresa di Gallura, both operators dock at the Banchina La Punzesa; there's a bar at the Stazione Marittima. Olbia and Olbia Airport are 64 kilometres away via the SS133 or the coastal SP90, Alghero is 130 kilometres. Buses run from the port to Olbia (via Palau and Arzachena), to Sassari (via Castelsardo) and to Tempio Pausania.

Only a few nautical miles separate the southern tip of Corsica from the northern tip of Sardinia. The ferry from Bonifacio to Santa Teresa di Gallura is the shortest and most frequent link between the two islands, short enough for a day trip, with a vehicle deck for road trips too.
